I am a member of the Whippany Park High School Class of 2025 in Whippany, NJ. I live in Cedar Knolls with my parents, Michelle and Sean, my younger brother Austin, and my pit bull puppies, Blue and Ghost. I hope to major in Chemical Engineering (with a double major or minor in Mechanical Engineering) when I enter college. Math and science have always been the subjects that drew me in the most, probably because my father works in finance and my grandfather is a chemical engineer. My senior year schedule includes courses such as AP Chemistry, AP Computer Science A, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, AP English Literature, and Python and JAVA. I believe that these courses will adequately prepare me for undergraduate studies in Mechanical and Chemical Engineering, where I can obtain more hands on experience in the field.
My hockey career has not been as smooth and conventional as most players. I began lessons at the age of 4, and played in a mite program for a few years. I lost interest in hockey after that and tried every other sport under the sun including baseball, basketball, soccer, swimming, golf, and tae kwon do. None of those sports really got me to fall in love with them. When my brother asked for my dad to buy ice time to organize a game with his friends for his birthday, I decided it would be fun to play in goal. I borrowed equipment that barely fit me, and had no idea what I was doing, but I got in there and to everyone's surprise, I had a great time. There happened to be an opening for a backup goalie on the Jersey Wolves Pee Wee Team, and Coach Ken offered it to me. The rest is history!
When I am not on the ice with one of my teams, I love volunteering with my hockey club and with younger players. Running the clocks and scoreboard at the Squirt, Pee Wee, or Bantam games for my fellow Wolves is a fun way for me to help out while cheering on my friends. I also enjoy volunteering as a goalie coach with our local recreation hockey league, Hanover Storm. Seeing the smile on the face of a young goalie after they make a save is well worth waking up early on a Saturday morning.
Most recently, I have been volunteering with the NY Rangers Learn to Play Program, where I love watching young hockey players learn and develop as the weeks go on.
While I love hockey and play on various teams year round, I also am involved in many clubs, extracurricular activities, and volunteer work.
I spend a lot of time working with the stage crew at my school, where we put on a fall drama and spring musical each year. I build sets for the shows, and most recently became the head lighting engineer on the crew, where I was responsible for coding all of the lighting effects and cues for our spring 2023 musical, Little Shop of Horrors, our fall 2023 drama, Murder on the Orient Express, our spring 2024 musical, Freaky Friday, and our fall 2024 drama, Almost, Maine.
I have volunteered with the Children's Tumor Foundation since 2016. We have a family friend who was diagnosed with NF1 when he was a year old, and this is a cause that is near and dear to my heart. As a CTF volunteer, I assist at fundraisers such as tricky trays and lemonade stands, and have served as the Coordinator's Assistant for the annual Shine a Light NF Walk.
In December 2022, I began working as an intern with the US Army at Picatinny Arsenal in Morris County, NJ. I work as part of a research group in the engineering department where I use my coding skills on projects for our US Government.
For the 2023-2024 school year, I worked as a Teacher's Assistant in one of the Chemistry classes at my school, where I assisted the teacher, Mr. Grenard, with prepping for and setting up labs, as well as assisting students and answering any questions that they had during the lab.
I am currently a host, server, and cook at the Brookside Diner in Whippany, NJ. I have learned so many valuable customer service skills and enjoy talking with all of our customers when they come in for breakfast or lunch.
I have enjoyed working during the spring and summer doing masonry work with JMC Landscape Design. Seeing a project such as a patio, pool, or outdoor kitchen transform a homeowner's yard makes me proud that I had a hand in this process.
I also have worked as a private tutor in computer coding and math to middle school and high school students throughout my high school years. I enjoy sharing my knowledge while making learning coding and math as fun for others as it is for me.
